A secret beach hidden behind rows of houses, local shops, and the road connecting the entire island of Camiguin. This is where my grandmother lives, a perfect place to take a morning swim, to hear the birds sing, to watch the sunrise, and to walk. The sweet smell of bonfires and saltwater is in the air here, a perfect base for drifting into thought or simply staring out into space. Looking out toward the grand expanse of the sea, it’s easy to feel at place in this beautiful place. Away from the glare of city lights, I see more stars than I could ever count.
In this secret place, where the ocean meets the sky and the water meets the land, the music of the Earth meshes with the colors of your thoughts. It’s as if you can almost see your imagination fading into the horizon.
This post is dedicated to a very special person. Happy Birthday to my dad, Tony Rodriguez, for without him, I would have never seen the banks of the Philippine Sea with my own two eyes for the very first time.
