Yesterday morning, I trudged sleepily towards my class from the bus stop. I forgot my morning coffee and I’d only slept about 4 hours a blogging, photo editing frenzy. Ordinarily, this would have meant an utterly painful and tired two hours of class time, but something stopped me dead in my tracks – this African Market, taking place at my school this week.
The interesting thing about the African market, at first glance, is that it is taking place in Brazil. But a deeper look into Brazilian anthropology will affirm that a large part of Brazil’s roots, ancestry, and customs are actually descended from Africa itself. In fact, of the three races that comprise Brazil’s heritage, African ancestry is one of them!
So, in honor of dedicating myself to learning more about Brazil’s cultural heritage, here’s a photo from the African market, in which I bought a beautiful, handmade hairband and some presents for friends back at home.
